Hey everyone- well this weekend I plan to set up my in wall 120. No worries will set up a thread with Pics!!

Anyway-- I want to make sure I do this right the first time and am hoping you can share your opinion on what worked best for you as far as rock set up.

So with my Red Sea tank I filled the tank with water let it sit for a day so temp and salinity could level out. I then added my rock.

With my 120 there is going to be a lot more rock then in my Red Sea so I am wondering if what I did will still work best with the new tank..

    For the 120 Should I:
    Add Sand
    Set up rock
    Fill with water

    OR

    Add Sand
    Fill with water
Let temp and salinity level out
    set up rock

    Any thoughts?

Everybody has different ways of setting up a tank. In my new tank that will be started in couple weeks. I will be doing it the tangster way since I only want to do it once.

i like the second one with rock last. if you pour the water into a bowl on top of your sand you will get less clouding

Set up rock, then water, then the sand through a piece of 2 or 3 inch pvc. With the rocks sitting on the bottom of the tank you don't have to worry about a tunneling critter getting crushed or making things unstable and falling over. Pour the sand down the pipe while moving the pipe just above the bottom of the tank to fill the empty spots. The sand will not be able to get stirred up that way and you can place it where you want it.

You want the rock on the bottom of the tank to help with stability, sitting on the sand is asking for an avalanche
