Wondering if anyone sucks the settlement out of their sump or if i should. It looks like a brown powdery sand...like a dust. Also if anyone sucks it out how do they do it? I would siphon but the sump is under the display so i dont have gravity to my advantage.

luv' really i think the dust in the sump is some what negligible , heck we all get it our sumps.
Threres really no reason to to be concerned.

I would not let it build up too much. At least it will cause debris clouds in tank when it gets disturbed...and being decaying matter, probably has a very adverse affect on water params if allowed to build up.

I used to clean sump bottom out and both overflows (which also collect lots of gunk) with a small shopvac...just rigged piece of large siphon hose on end of vacuum tube using duct tape...and it sucked up all with no problem.

Problem went away once I started using filter socks on both returns...besides providing sparkling clear water...no more stuff buildup in sump...

Yup, we have a powerhead in the sump connected to a timer which stirs the sediment up so that it makes it back into the main tank to feed our coral. :)

I suppose that if you let it sit there for long periods of time, it could but since we keep it "circulated" it doesn't have a chance to sit and rot before it's consumed.
