Sexy Shrimp

Hi all, i was thinking of putting some of these cool little dudes in my 12g nano cube...do i need a specific type of coral or a cave or anything for them?...if anyone knows anything about them plz tell me...im trying to figure out what i can put in the tank...i am keeping in mind that eventually i wanna put clowns and try and mate them ...i am assuming that the clowns would protect the eggs and i would take the eggs out (if they decide to lay on a ceramic tile) but other wise i am up for anything in the tank...there is noting but some zooplankton i think...for some reason there r alot...

 

The Sexy Shrimp (Thor amboinensis) is a very small shrimp species that belongs to the ‘hump-backed’ shrimp family Hippolytidae. Hump-backed shrimps are characterized by having a distinctively humped abdomen – hence hump is how the shrimp family got its name. They are distributed around the tropical waters of the Indo West Pacific including locations such as Papua New Guinea and northern Australia, including the Great Barrier Reef. It is also found in the Caribbean. This species was named after the island of Ambon in Indonesia.
The Sexy Shrimp is found around small anemones and can be found on rocky and coral reefs and amongst coral rubble. This species is commonly found in close association with the beaded sea anemones (Heteractis aurora) and they can also be found on other anemone species including tube anemones. This species can be recognized by it’s white eyes and the white spots that are found on the body. The Sexy Shrimp (Thor amboinensis) grows to a maximum length of approximately 2cm.
Give it plenty of hiding places and it should be fine.

Great little shrimp. I have one that nested in a carpet anemone that I recently removed. Since I removed the anemone, however, it has taken to hiding under a ledge of my rockwork

 

hmm so i would really need an amemonie eh...has anyone had them with a tube?

 

Just something to thing about.  If you want to keep clowns then I wouldn't get a anemone and this shrimp.  They will end up fighting for for the anemone and the shrimp will lose.  Just a thought.

 

well i would get an amemonie for the shrimp such as the tube and then i would try and get the clowns and their anemonie at the same time so they dont steal the shrimps one...hmmm now that i think about it ...this might be hard lol...

 

well, it's only a 12 gallon tank, that's a lot of livestock if you add all this

 

Well it may be a little more than preferred. I wouldn't consider the shrimp or the anemones to be a bio-load. This leaves 2 clowns. Anemones are a small load as they are mostly photosynthetic.

 

ya...in fact i am proabably gona make my nano a invert tank ie. crabs shrimp ect and buy the nano deluxe for the clowns and amemonie (better lighting and semi-skimmimg)...GOD I WANNA CAMERA...i have to show off my classes tanks...and wow remember the business i was talking about (where i bought the tanks) they went outa business....well i spent about 4k on 4.5k worth of tanks and etc...i think im getting the rest at Jeffs... if anyone lives in CA los angeles area u should check them out... www.exoticfish.com

No. The shrimp will nest in your corals and maybe even your ricordia. As of yesterday, mine has nested in a devil's hand leather coral
