SF bay area w/o AC; do I need a chiller?

I am in the planning phases of a 100g with 30g sump. I live in the SF bay area where summer temps are normally around 80, but sometimes 90 degrees. I don't have AC. Unfortunately I don't know the average internal temp of my house.

Will evaporation be enough to keep my tank cool? (I know, every situation is different, but a $1200 chiller and associated plumbing is something I want to avoid)

    Planned equipment emitting heat:
    - 90g RapidLED kit
    - 30w skimmer pump
    - 65w submirsible return pump
    - ~15w powerheads

I will have an enclosed canopy with 2-4 120mm computer fans. I would really like to avoid a chiller or external return pump.

Figuring our the actual thermodynamic solution is probably more that I can figure out with research, but I hope the collective experience will have good real world info.

    Thanks for any input!!

Unless you are a serious sps collector I think you should be fine without a chiller.A small fan to blow across the surface on very hot days would be good.Ato to handle the increased evaporation would be nice to have also.A good heater or better yet two is also important to have. What you want to avoid are large swings in temp.

It's an expensive investment. If the outside temperature usually hangs around 80, I think you may be safe. How many months out of the year does it hit 80-90 outside? It wouldn't be worth it (to me) to run one for only a month or two. An overhead fan may be just enough. IME, LEDs produce very little heat.

If we FINALLY get a hot summer then I would recommend either a small chiller or a bunch of fans

I live in Berkeley. No need for a chiller here. What part of the Bay are you at? South?

    Thanks for the replies!

South bay, San Jose area, about 10 degrees hotter on average than berkley, I think...

Yes, evaporation will be enough?, or yes I should plan for a chiller?

I am also glad no one said that a 60w submersible return pump should be converted to a external pump for heat reasons.

Sometimes I wish I could just jump into things with having to plan an answer every question....

Ahh indeed. That is what I thought. You don't have the fog sitting on you down there.

I dont think you will need a chiller, but you will definitely need an auto top off with all those cooling fans. You can also put one over your sump. Mine makes a difference of about 3 whole degrees in the summer.
