Thnx Curt, Case Closed....I have been at 1.024 for along time now but will jack it up a bit at a time on top off's over the course of the next week or two. I will go 1.025 and keep it stable....

i heard that it was a myth before, and i can understand that but why do there bodies have to work harder to maintain the osmotic balance? i would assume the cells of the fish have lower salinity then the surrounding ocean water.

i know there kindeys may accumulate toxins in a hyposaline environment, does that have any thing to do with it?

They have evolved to be at 1.025~1.026 and that is where they are the most comfortable. I could type for a half hour and not do as good as Osmoregulation in Fish

Right.....it's at 1.025 in the fish's cells. To lower the gradient means you would want your water to be at 1.025. If it's at 1.022, you have increased the gradient.

You lower SG for diseased fish but don't make them live like that.

So that being said, good read I will admit....do people have to add salt tp there tanks between water changes to maintian the desired salt levels ? I always see threads that imply once the salt is set, there are no changes needed over the course of the time till the next water change I am doing monthly changes 20% and notice after about 2 weeks I need to add salt...90 and 125 gallon tanks .....100 / 200 gallon total volume. Is this feasible?? or is my refractometer acting up again? I double check with a hydrometer and it also indicates a lower salt level 1.024 2 weeks later 1.022 ?

i dont worry about it tell the next WC. you may want to try adjusting your skimmer so the skimmate isnt as wet. if anything you should be worried about salinity increase from evap unless you have auto top off
