OK. I have been working to increase my SG from 1.020 to 1.025 for a few weeks. I took the readings today using two different devices. My $3.49 glass float read 1.022/3. My plastic doohickey (with the swing needle) read 1.026/7 (=1.024/5@80 degrees).

So the question is......which do I believe?

I've tested my floaty plastic one against a hydrometer and they were the same. I've had the floaty plastic one for years. I don't have the glass one, but in theory, IMO it should be pretty accurate, since there is nowhere for anything to get into it and corrode it. OK this didn't help at all...I'm sorry.....:-/ I do rinse my plastic one out everything I use it and have even soaked it with vinegar before to make sure it was clean

I dont know but if my reading seems just a lil off from my plastic elcheapo swingarm, i make sure to check the whole swing arm for small bubbles that may be on it causing a high reading.

just my two cents from my own short experiance.
if your already doing this. i dont know which to trust. :cheesy: lol.
