Im sure people feel remorse. I do, I just dont express it publicly. Its a tragedy, but Im just not going to announce it out loud. Its become part of our human nature to see death as something that happens all around us, thanks to TV and Movies.. For example in a movie you can have a scene where a girl with a sword cuts limbs and heads of over 100 people in detail, but then if the same girl were to kick a dog 4 seconds later in the same movie there would be an outrage about the dog getting kicked.. People have lost touch and theres little to do about it..

I feel bad for the trainer , but like the name stats it is a KILLER WHALE. A whale does not belong in a tank of any kind so I don't blame the whale, but the people who watch the shows, train them, and domesticate them. Where is the tang police here? I feel bad for the trainer and their family, but they knew the risk and accepted the possibility of death.

Killer whales need atleast 200' of room to swim freely and one would need to have a few Koralia 6000s in there to provide ample flow to keep the detrius in suspension. Also one would say that the addition of ozone to the skimmer is beneficial to keep high levels of dissolved oxygen and the aid in skimming. They need to be fed about 3 times a day with heavy high protein meat diet, and need supplimental vitamins for success.. They are not reef safe and should only be housed with similar occupants. Their difficulty is Expert only.

wow. you really are the moral police. yip, it's me that looks pathetic. sure thing there officer.

over a quarter million people die every single day. I don't have room to boo hoo for each and every one moral officer.

And you are absolutely right, if it were my family I would care.

It is kinda funny you brought up equipment for this tank. I was watching a show that went "Behind the scenes" of the Georgia aquarium and they have like 4-5 Protein skimmers the size of my house! WOW. The have 10-20 150 horse VFD motors it is awesome. I work with water and equipment like this so seeing such a setup kinda makes me feel like river dancing.

Take it easy folks. It's obvious that there are mixed feelings about this tragedy but let's not start taking shots at each other over it.

I agree, nobody on here is making "fun" of the situation, but some people on here have dealt with enough death that either one, it doesn't effect us much or 2 we try to repress that emotion. It is not a sin to not put someone Else's burden on our shoulders when we have enough to deal with as it is. Like i said earlier, it is tragic but I have enough to worry about I don't need one more.

Also, depending on what region your killer whale comes from, you may need one of one hundred chillers to keep the water temperature in check. Some killer whales are extremely cold water animals, while some pods of killer whales live around South America. I highly suggest getting one from the warmer climates.

And with the remorse thing, I'm sure I'd feel differently if the whale jumped out of the tank and killed a park visitor that was looking at it (which would never happen). But it was the trainer. Someone who works with the whales daily and she knew the risk of the job. She of all people would know how wild the animals under her care were. Sure it sucks, it's a tragedy, but we all know that a job like that is a risky business. It's like people pitching a hissy fit when soldiers die. Most soldiers know exactly what they sign up for. And if they're too naive to realize it, they'll soon know what could happen to them. Yes, it sucks. Yes, it's heart breaking for families and friends. But death is one thing that is guarunteed to happen to every single person on this planet. We're all going to die, it's just a matter of how we die, and why.
