my father-in-law and I both got one for Xmas last year.

They do work well. they're not as magical as the commercial makes them out, but they do absorb quite a lot.

It lasted on my car about 6 months. I got a replacement "knock-off" at Wal-Mart. I don't remember that brand, but it seemed to work even better... but I could have just been impressed w/the difference between a 6 month old one and a new one... not sure.

Yup. I got mine about 15 years ago too. At one point, I hadn't used it for 3 years or so, and it dried to a consistency much like a rolled up dog bone. I soaked it in water for about 24 hours, and BAM. Just like new again. I've been very happy with it. It'll dry my entire F-150 before I have to wring it out--and that's a lot of metal. Every so often I throw it in the washer, and it's like new. I only paid $13.99 for mine, though.

The shamwow has gotta be the same crap.

if you do want a sham wow you can make your own :) just go to the craft store, buy a piece of felt, and write shamwow on it with a marker.
thats all it is really i don't have one but i have held them and was not impressed at all.

If you live by a target store they now carry the sham wow. I did not buy it but that might save you time and money if you want to give it a try.

The Absorber is way better. Even better than chamois. It's synthetic chamois that pics up WAY more water.

I think The Absorber is the one have. The label has worn off the case in the years I own it, but that sounds familiar. It's synthetic and washable, right?
