Does anyone have any experience with a banded bamboo shark in a reef aquarium? We got one tonight and it died within two hours. I think it may have gotten entangled in the live rock and ended up upside down. Any insight on this is welcome.

How big is your tank??? They need at least 150 gallons and preferrably no live rock which can cause abrasions and infection.

Its only a 40 that I was planning on housing it in for a couple of months. Im pretty sure it got pinned in a small space in the rock and ended up upside down. Poor shark the blame should go to me for poor research before purchase.

sharks can be very challenging. sorry for your loss. if I were getting one, I'd put it right into a large tank right away. BTW, was your tank ever treated with copper? I believe copper is very toxic to sharks.

If sharks end up upside down, their brains shutoff.

I'm planning a shark when I set up a 300G. I have a good friend that has kept sharks in many different kinds of tanks, Reef, Softy tanks, and FOWLR. Never had an issue with sharks getting angled in LR. Naturally Bamboo sharks live in reef areas. I highly doubt it trapped itself upside down, but anything is possible. I'm going to assume it was sick when you purchased it and the shock of the move could have been the factor to it's death
I'm not a big fan of purchasing a fish that will out grow your current tank, but to each there own
    Sorry for your loss
