Corailline beat me to it. Also, octopuses don't live very long at all.

I have a friend that owns a fish store. One time he was all ready to blame an employee fir theft because all his super expensive wrasses kept disappearing. He went to his security tapes to see if he could catch the thief in the act. Well he did. He saw the Octo disappear into the return plumbing and pop out the in the wrasse tank. There he would chew a fish and go back to his own tank.

They are awesome creatures.I've had 1 and am looking for another.there are octos that wud fit in a 40gallon tank but you would want to aim for about 50lbs of rock and a way over rated skimmer.if u had crabs u wont anymore.mabe small hermits would survive but that's about it.they have 3 hearts so they polute about 3 times as much of a fish of equal mass. Their life span and activity level can be controlled with their temerature somewhat...colder=longerish life but less active, inversely warmer=more active shorter life.they are incredibly strong...theyll freak u out how strong they are lol.they will most likely kill anything in the tank with them.corals are of if they aren't of the stinging variety.but lighting is an issue because they donnt like intense reef lighting.their eyes are very important.it is 90% of their hunting tools.if u have more questions please ask:)

If you can picture where the "mouth" of a starfish is on it's underside and at the center of it's body then you can basically understand where the beak is on an octopus.

That's the simplest way I could think of to explain it. If you are really interested I think they went into detail about it in one of the 'Planet Earth' episodes. (it could have been 'Blue Planet')
