Thanks!! So far I think I like reef crest mode for every day. I love the thought of the nutrient transport mode, so I've been turning that on at night. I don't expect to keep that up, but for now I think it will be good for all of the LPS that opens up at night. Right now I've still got my 2 Koralia 1050s in the tank, I think they might stay in, but now I can put them in the very back corners of the tank, blowing behind the rocks. WAY fewer dead spots, plus they don't stand out anymore.

As far as upgrading - LOL! I just got this tank last spring, it seems like a dream tank still. I've put many thousands into it, and now I want a second vortech. Ask me again after I get that, as then my tank (equipment wise) will be considered "done" and I may be ready to move on to the next venture. Unless of course I decide I want LED's, which is a good possibility. So glad my husband doesn't read these forums, I can just hear him groan. Ha ha!!

Got some new ROX carbon last night from BRS. Also am trying GFO for the first time ever. Both are in media bags instead of a reactor. I'm hoping to see some improvement, I'm noticing a little more algae than normal so I thought I'd give the GFO a shot.

(needed a spot to write this down since I don't have a tank journal.) :)

Thanks!! If I didn't dump tons of money into my tank, it might end up in a therapist's pocket - or the liquor store LOL. I love looking at my tank, watching things grow and change. I'm pretty sure it drops my blood pressure when I get home in the evening. (I work for lawyers LOL )

+1! Have you tried the blue (short pulse mode) setting? It needs a fine tune but once you figure out, itll give you AWESOME waves :p

Im in the battle against nuisance algae as well which started soon after the rebuilt of the LED. It looks favor for me tho :) How is the macro algae in the fuge? I hope youd see some improvement sooner than later.

I haven't tried the short pulse wave, I think I might mess with that this weekend.

I've got cheato in the fuge, which grows well. The algae isn't really out of control or anything, just that I'm noticing a little more of it. I picked up a handful of red banded trochus snails, and a moon snail, they are really knocking it out. But I've also gotten a touch of cyano, mostly after I feed pellets, that I'm hoping a little GFO will help with.

So yesterday I had the day off. In the morning I noticed my bird's nest turning a little white at the base. As the day went on, every time I passed the tank it seemed like one more branch is white. By the time I woke up this morning, the whole thing is bleached. Also last night I noticed my stylo turning white at the base, and nearly no PE, which is odd because the style PE is always super extended. GRRRRRR this has never happened to me before! I checked my refractometer first, and it was a few degrees off, so my salinity is .023 instead of .026. This might have happened during the last few water changes I did over 2 weeks time to clean up the sump a little bit. I'm going to make saltwater tonight and top off with that until my salinity is back to normal. I didn't have a chance to run the rest of the tests, will do that tonight.

This is strange to me because the bird's nest and stylo would appear to be the hardiest SPS that I've got in the tank. My Cali Tort is doing great, $500 efflo is fine, all of my sensitive SPS are fine.

Not sure what the heck I'm going to do....... I would think if it was due to the carbon and GFO then my softies and ricordias would be affected by cleaner water than the SPS....

    Thoughts please?
