Some corals do occasionally close up or look funky for a day or two. I noticed it when my hammer coral started splitting. I don't even notice it anymore because it's just part of the process. Unless it doesn't open for a few days or you start seeing exposed skeleton or the flesh on the "stalk" starts receding up towards the head of the coral it should be fine.

My clean up crew is a sifting star, a serpent star, 10 snails, 10 hermits, and a cleaner shrimp. I would like to expand that to 15 more snails 5 hermits and a few more unique cleaners. What do you guys suggest? I would like a pair of CBS but would they fight with my cleaner? Any other interesting things are welcome :)

Haha sorry about all these posts but I'm just trying to get all my livestock plans down. I know damsels get very aggresive but these four lemon damsels on liveaquaria are too cute! And I love when fish school together. I don't plan on having many fish. I would only want them, a pair of clowns, and one other fish maybe. Will the damsels be to aggressive with the others?

Im going to call the glass shop and have them cut my glass but i was just thinking as i was dialing before. Some peices are going to have to be smaller then other to fit nicely. My dimentions are here...

    1) 2 sides- 16'' height x 10'' depth
    2) Front/back- 16'' height x 31'' length
    3) base- 10'' depth x 31'' length

    glass thickness- 9mm

Should i call and ask for exactly that or do i have to subtract the thickness from somewhere cause i would think that will be an issue. Please help

Im very interested on getting a bubble tip anemone. I know there is that saying wait a year before your first nem. What is the reasoning behind this? Its not like exactly one year after u fill up your tank something magical is going to happen that allows you to keep a nem so can someone explain this better please. I dont plan on getting this nem any time soon though. I want to get my RO/DI unit, get my sump setup, and let that sit before i buy it. So im just gunna guess about 3 months untill i order it(if i do). Now i have only t5 lighting so some pople are saying that i cannot keep it alive and theres some who say they have done it and had great success. Just looking for more answers. Also im looking for a good RO/DI system thats not to much money if anyone has some suggestions. THANK YOU :)

Torch still is not looking good. But this thing is still growing on the stalk of the coral. Im debating to break it off or not. For some reason i feel like its a new torch thats growing, can anyone tell me if they've seen this before?

hey there, just stumbled across this thread, sry to hear about your ick outbreak, thats too bad tank sounded really nice. from what ive read it looks like you are on the right track upgrading to a sump/fuge and skimmer, HOB just dont work well for SW unless there is little bio and even then...
Corals will randomly contract in some areas for whatever reason. maybe you have something crawling on it.
Sump: yes 10in is a little small but not uncommon and 33in long will make up for the width. i'd go over to a pet shop and check out their glass tank section and find something that matches the bigger the better. you can go fancy and spend some $$$ and order a sump online there are a million to pick from. you should be able to keep everything you mentioned in the sump. remember to leave back siphon room for when the tank shuts off so you dont overflow your sump. Return pump: probably want something about 700-1000 gph. external pumps are better and dont add heat to tank but im personally fine with internal power heads.
hope your build is going well.
