I bought rock locally when I lived in Tampa. It was affordable there. $3-$5 per pound for base. Here in TN the only rock I can find is crappy rock with aiptaisa that's $9.99 per pound. I will only buy rock online while I live here.

The LFS store that I might buy from puts it in tanks, and If I buy 80-100lbs he will keep it for a month in his tanks after he recieves it. So I would guess that the rock would be cycled. I will still wait about a month after I add the rock to my tank tank fot it to cycle{to add any live stock} but I am not sure I would need to.

Years ago I went way to fast, even with the support of my LFS. Not going to happen this time. What killed my tank 15 years ago was a heat wave. losing my 55G tank just sucked the love for this hobby right out of me. I will not repeat my mistakes again.

I will make new mistakes but going to fast, not being able to control heat and buying crap only to later on buy the right tool for the job are a few things that wont happen this time.

I am very grateful for this forum. I think for the people who are here to listen and learn its a great resource. You can save a lot of cash and heartache from other who share there mistakes. Thank you thank thank you

Geez $9.99 per pound? I am never moving out of florida lol. I like to get rock from tampabaysaltwater.com, the owner leases an area in the ocean and the rock is cured there. The ammount of life on the rocks is incredible.

Here in Oregon the price ranges from about $5-9lb The LFS I am thinking of using, charges $6lb but over 20lbs he drops it to $5lb.

I guess one of my concerns about buying on line is not being able to pick out the pieces. But I still have almost 5 months till I can start the tank so I am thinking about making some of the rock. But I will start a new thread about that.

Yea, and it's definitely live too. Alive with aiptaisa, and other nasty looking stuff I would not dream of putting in my tank without boiling and bleaching the rock first. Which makes it base rock, and it's not even good looking rock. I was stunned when I saw it.

Same with me here in Chicago. My LFS here in Chicago has the same thing, aiptasia everywhere. It's a midwest thing I bet.
