Was the stuff sold through e-bay or through a website. Paypal is a lot less generous to the buyer when it isn't through e-bay and if you complain enough they will give you a "courtesy credit" which basically means we really didn't want to do our jobs so we just give everyone their money.

I personally have great success rates shipping with the post office. You are always going to run into issues no matter which service you use. Usually it has to be a really bad neighborhood for the postal carrier not to deliver because then they have to take the extra steps of filling out the stupid little form.

Unfortunately this is part of the risk of selling online. I had a guy leave a package at the post office for 10 days a little while back. Luckily the coral was still alive when he picked it up or I am sure he would have been filing a paypal complaint.

Ohh and the post office now contracts with Fed Ex for handling of Priority and Express Mail so there isn't much difference in how the packages get to the person other than the cost.

I do absolutely nothing anymore with the us postal service (usps). My final act recently was to start using online bill pay. Now I'm finally finished with them, entirely.

My experience with both UPS and Fedex has been great. Perhaps try them next time? UPS has lots of stores in local strip malls in this area which is convenient. They are easy to work with, you don't usually have to wait in line and fill out silly paperwork, they are reliable, and you can track any shipment even ground. UPS might cost a couple bucks more, but that isn't particularly expensive if you consider the old saying 'you get what you pay for'.

AMEN at that! I shipped some collectibles one time and had each figure individually wrapped, then each box wrapped and placed them in a box with wrapping throughout the box. I wrote fragile all over the box (thankfully I got the insurance......the figures were worth close to 600.00)
The buyer contacts me and said the box was destroyed and almost everyone of the figures were broke! Luckily the insurance covered his lost and I did not loose the money but

I agree, if you are not there to pick up corals then the buyer is NOT at fault! Hopefully all is well with the corals..not sure where you live or shipped to but hopefully weather is nice!

I think that's what he meant. I can not buy insurance with USPS for live fish/corals

USPS is barely good for sending postcards. I ordered a cuc from reefcleaners. They did not leave it at my front door, I also went to the PO because i was expecting it, and they said there was no package. In fact the package was there, and when I picked up the next day, they told me that it is the drivers choice whether it is a safe location or not. ( I live on a rear private lot in the country with no neighbors.) Lazy, lazy, lazy. Anyway about half the snails were dead. Its a good thing Reefcleaners puts in lots of extras.8) Moral of the story = FedEx or Ups for live aquaria.

OP, this is not the first issue I have had with usps, believe me. I also left clear instructions under the "notes" line to leave package on the front porch. The driver just chose not to. I also went down to pick it up myself, and they told me there was no package, when it was there. Im not sayin they did it intentionally, I just think they are not as diligent and thorough as UPS or FedEx. Maybe USPS in NY is better than it is in CT?
