As an ER physician I strongly advise against not using a GFI circuit. You can pick up a plug-in adaptor for 20 bucks. I also use a titanium ground in the water. Supposedly makes the fish happier.- Paul

GFI is definatly the way to go. I have had many old ladys put there curling irons in the water and then wondered why the outlets don't work. All saved thanks to GFI. Wouldn't do with out.

I have yet to have a surge protector save anything of mine. I have seen a computer and a alarm clock get fried while on a surge protector. Granted they were both hit by lighting.

wow i am sorry to hear that...most docks are also using 50A, its the amps that kill you.

i was mixing salt one day and my cat jumped into my 50 gal mixing trashcan full freshly mixed ro salt water. after all the splashing and dumping a good 5 gals on top the floor to get the cat out, the exention cord running the powerhead started to smoke and make a load clicking sound. i just touched the cord to unplug it and got a heck of shock...
after that little shock i TRY not get my cords wet, or keep the cats out of the house while doing water stuff. to bad cat fur cant be substiuted in for calicum...

GFCI serving the entire setup is excellent insurance. If you do get juiced, it will last only 1/40 of a cycle. That's 25 thousandths of a second.

    'Nuff said.
