I have a single percula clown fish, he just swims up and down in the corner all the time... doesn't host anything... seems healthy, takes food, looks chubby, etc.

I bought it singly about 3-4 weeks ago, and I really want a pair... it's 2.5-3" long... would I be able to add another clown in hopes that they pair up? What's the best way to go about this? Should I add one that is smaller or larger... The one in my tank seems VERY docile, so I wouldn't worry too much about it stressing another clown, but I would want them to pair up eventually...

    Any advice is appreciated!

    Thanks!

Yes, they are best in pairs. Make sure to get a similar size and the same species, don't try to mix a clown from another species.

OK, so another Percula that's the SAME size? OK ;D any other suggestions?

    Thanks!

Oh, I think that maybe this one sees it's reflection in the corner, which is why it swims there all the time... maybe?

It's possible, Clowns are best in pairs, they start out as male and the larger or more dominant one will become the female.

Yihaaa... definitely get another one... sooo much fun to watch them. My b&w ocillaris are spawing (I think) and one is just too lonely. Get another one and you shall see how cute they are together!

it take a while for them to spawn. sometimes a few years...

i recommend a smaller clown to make sure they are both not females. You can interbreed ocellaris and percula and they both like each other... my pair is one of each

So, that's one vote for a smaller clown...

What about adding a B/W Perc with a True Perc? Will they pair?

So, I got the new clown today!!! Another True Percula... this one is slightly smaller and more of a reddish orange than the other one.

In the first pic you can see Zippy is looking at the new arrival in anticipation. They pair up right off the bat! In the second pic, Zippy is on the left and the new clown is on the right... I didn't expect them to pair so fast, but Zippy seemed eager to have a buddy!

    Here they are:
