Good points Sparky. Although I do have LR rubble in my sump. I have a small CUC in there and regulaly blow off detritus buildup. It is one more step in maintainence, but takes very little time. I think the CUC helps to keep it minimal.

ReefSparky - eloquence is the word that comes to mind when reading your post! You are a gentleman and a scholar sir!

I agree with everything you said. My only remark is that I am trying to make up some weight in rock and do not want to put too much more in my DT as it will undesirably alter the aquascaping. Is there a way to do this LR in the sump thing that will be less work? A way that will trap less detritus? Larger/smaller pieces? We do have a DSB (about 4"-5") that does support a good pod population and plan on adding a 40BR refugium in addition to the existing 40BR sump. Will it be bad to put the LR rubble in the fuge'? I have read that some people have LR in there and some do not . . . .
    Any input on that?!

    Thanks again to all!

I would think that your "display fugue" would be a better place for more live rock than your sump since you'll want pod breeding grounds and if you're planing on seeing it some rock will help make it look more interesting (otherwise it'll be just a sandbed with algae above it).

I will have to disagree with Sparky however. The sump needs small rubble to give breeding grounds for pods and so forth as mentioned above. These rocks do not:
This is no more the issue then the large rocks in the DT that have unreachable areas and crevices that would essentially cause the same effect if this were the case. I'll bet there are a great deal more successful systems with rubble then without.
