Should I add sand before or after live rock?

    It's nice live base rock, seems a shame to bury it but if that's what's best.

    i would put the rock down and put the sand around the rocks, that way if you get a fish or shrimp that burrows you will be less likely to have an avalanche. thats my opinion.

    If you have a good, solid base for the rock to sit on you can add the rock after you put the sand in just wiggle the bottoms pieces until they are solidly on the base otherwise sand after rock.

    add the sand after. If you don't then your fish can dig the sand out from under it and cause it all to crash down.

    Add the sand afterward. I did it this way and it makes it less likely to collapse. I think it looks cooler than just having the rocks on-top anyways.

    That's what I did, and my gobies have holes under every rock. Nothing has moved yet.
