I just got a corral beauty on Sunday. As of this morning, Tue she is still not eating. The problem is she likes to hide, when i am away from tank she comes out, but when I go up to feed she runs and hides, thus has not eatin. All my parameters are ok, I have a true FO, 55gal. Should i be worried or will she come around soon? I have tried a veggi clip with seaweed, frozen brine, and and an alge based flake. Its just when she hides the other fish eat it all and by the time she comes out its all gone. Any help? Oh ya she is healthy, not gilling no signs of disease.

I was part owner of a LFS for a period of time. We way overfed our fish on purpose so that if the stress of the move to a new tank caused them to not eat for a week or two, there were plenty of reserves for the fish to live.

Welcome to 3Reef and don't worry.

Many fish will be very apprehensive to eat the first couple days or so. Some more than others some settle in and eat right away. Transport, how long they were at the LFS and how you acclimate are all factors in how fast they settle in and eat.

Most exporters or wholesalers intentionally don't feed for 48-72hrs so they do not deficate in the bag during shipping... they can handle a few days without a meal.

I would just keep and eye on the body to make sure it is not becoming emaciated, also look for signs of disease and/or parasites. Many Centropyge angels are sensitive to bacterial issues so watch for cloudy eyes as well. If you do see some clouding a good anti bacterial med such as sulfathiazole will wipe that out and will not affect your beneficial bacteria.

Also as far as feeding is concerned, keep trying different things and don't be afraid to use some garlic extract!

    Happy reefing!

Ok, thanks for the info, she had been at the LFS for awhile, I drip accumulated her for 2 hrs, 1hr slow drip, then increased the drip for the last hour, she has a very fat body so it looks like she has some good stores. Also I feed every other day, should I try everyday or just keep the same schedule?

    P.S.
Thanks for the welcome, this site has so much great info. This is my second tank, so I'm not totally new, but still have so much to learn. :)

Ok she is still not eating. Still hides when I come to tank, and the other fish eat everything before she comes out. Tried mysis and brine frozen, the algea flake with garlic in it, and dried seaweed via veggie clip.

I have four fish in my tank, and even now my coral beauty, will shy away and hide behind rock when i go to the tank, she's been in there around 4 months, my tang comes second, the bravest is the clown and peacock wrasse, for about the first week she did not come out of the rockwork, give her time, feed the food from the side of the tank, then sit 6 foot from it, let her get used to it, thats just the way some fish are, we have a timid coral beauty others may have a braver one.

I bought a Flame Angel once and it refused to eat till it died within a few days. I acclimated correctly and all params perfect. I tried live brine and never ate. At the LFS he suppsoedly ate. You should always watch the fish eat in the store. Don't just assume they ate well in the LFS
