good choice passing up the powder blue. I have never heard a good ending to the powder blue once it got ich.

Six line add alot of character. Congrats

I've got one and he is doing great in my tank. Had the normal problems with Ich but the cleaner wrasse is the key. I know most say they shouldn't be sold in the hobby but just make sure they eat frozen food at the LFS before buying and you should be good. Mine eats like a champ.
The only problem with my PB is he nips my elegance coral! The bastard is a real pain in the ass. He's lucky he's so damn beautiful.
    He's in with a Vlamangi that's about 12", Kole that's about 5', Sailfin that's around 5", and he's about 4.5".
Tough SOB. Really kicked the crap out of my Kole the first few weeks. They were both battle scared but are now agreeing to disagree.

Is there a secret to gettting them to eat ?? I got a Sailfin Tang a few days ago and unless he eating at night, I never see him eat ? Food will float past him. So far I have tried

    Nori
    Brine Shrimp
    Myosis Shrimp
    Red Sea weed
Garlic soaked in each / tired to a rock

He spends 90% on the day with his mouth inside a patch of green star polyps, dosen't look like nipping, just open and inside the polyps? I know he was eating at the LFS...Nori

I realize you already passed it up, but I just saw this thread and wanted to reply. If powder blues never seem to come to your LFS or town, then I can see wanting to grab the first one. While I respect Tangster's advice, I would never, ever consider buying a fish that wasn't 100% healthy, bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Buying a fish is a crap shoot as to whether or not he'll make it. Why stack the deck against you? I think it's like buying a new car that's scratched.
