Hi all. I am in the process of setting up a new tank and want to get some advice on proper coral care and disease prevention. I currently have a 90 gallon reef and fish. I've never dipped or quarantine any of my livestock before and have never noticed anything unusual or bad during the last year since I had it. I want to start doing things the right way. So...

    1. Should I dip and quarantine all livestock prior to introducing them to the new tank?
    2. How would I treat the live rocks and sand to make sure they are pest free?
    3. What chemicals should I use?
    4. Should I use 50% old water and do 50% new just to make sure all the livestock don't endure too much shock?

Or just leave it be since there are no noticable pest or diseases for over a year now? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Totally agree with Jays post above for any new corals you add to your set up

I think you mean dipping the corals in your old tank before moving to the new tank?
if so and they have been problem free for a year, then many people would not
its new things you add that could bring parasites etc to an established system that most people dip for

water - Im a big fan of using as much of the established water as I can when I upgrade
if I can save 80% and just discard that last few gallons and the sand bed , thats what I choose to do

Always Dip and QT your fish. I didnt and had a fish sneak ICH into my tank. that fish died 2 days later. it then infected a very expensive new specimen and I was forced to treat the entire system under HYPO conditions for over a month. NEVER again will I get a fish without first dipping it then having it in QT for a while.

Thank you for the advice guys. I will try what you said steve, and save 80% old water and do the rest as new. I have had issues with ich developing on one or two new fish as they are introduced into my tank but none of the existing fish ever seems to get it again. The only one that got it bad was a very nice powder blue that eventually died. I guess that will save me a lot of time and hard work if I can just do a straight transfer without having to treat any of my existing livestock and rocks. Thanks. I will post some photos in a few weeks once everything is done. BTW, this is part of my rimless build. Pickupman probably remembers.
