I have a branching hammer that i would consider to be pretty big...It has about 16 good size heads on it.
But then it has about 50 or so little tiny heads popping up all over the branches.

Are they competing for space? will the coral grow better if i were to cut some branches off and space it out alittle?

Or should i just let it do its thing?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
If the coral is other wise healthy and it's size not an issue I enjoy the growth.

I doubt they're competing for space; I couldn't imagine the colony attempting to crowd itself out as if each head were a different species. You should start a photo log thread. It'd be interesting to see the growth pattern. :)

Where there was once a head, but now that area is empty through the death of that head, is it possible for a new head to grow in that area ? How does new growth appear ? Does it self spawn, or simply grow from within the branch it lives on, like the branches of a tree ? I note that branching corals appear to all live on branches, is this a by product of the corals life, does the branch get bigger by the coral growing ? Are they linked ?
