Currently I have a fluval 305 filter running on my 55 Gal. Running in the filter is carbon and bio-max. Should I remove the filter? I have a a Aqua C Remora protein skimmer with the pre-skimmer box so I was thinking I could put the carbon in that box. I ve always heard the bio-max can be bad so should I just remove the filter?

Not quite clear..You want to run carbon in your skimmer and get rid of the canister?

If that's the case imo it's not a good idea. How are you going to remove the solid waste, i.e. detrius, from your system? Do you have a sump? Is this a reef set up or FO?
I'm not a big fan of canisters on reef builds. There is too much work involved keeping them clean so they don't become little N03 factories. But on the other hand if a tank is FO or FOWLR I'd probably use a canister and clean it regularly.
If you can, consider a sump. If you don't want one or can't then I would leave the canister, run only a high grade carbon and gfo in it and clean it at least every two weeks. My .02:)
