    Another thing to watch for is that most cheaper "captive bred" seahorses are raised in seawater or in cement containers where regular water changes are done with seawater.
    As such, they have the same pathogens that wildcaught have with the resultant poor survivability.
    The only advantage is that they are normally trained to eat frozen foods.
    To get the best chance of success in keeping seahorses you need to buy from a hobbyist who raise his/her fry, or from places like SeahorseSource, but you will pay a lot more for them.
    While there are some seahorses kept in reefing conditions and with other species of fish, they are just a small minority of the ones sold in the trade.
    High losses are experienced when mixing species or when keeping temperatures above 74° F.
    Keeping temperatures 68° to 74° lessens the chances of bacterial infestations like vibrio which multiply exponentially the warmer the temperature.
    Seahorses are extremely vulnerable to bacterial outbreaks that result in their quick demise.

    my lfs had some seahorses that were "captive Bred" they were so lively i almost bought them on the spot.
