I recently had 2 fish die very close together. Both were well established in the tank. Both were fat and pretty (no outward signs of ich or anything like that). (blenny and a wrasse)

I have not been able to pin the cause on anything particular.

I am partly thinking internal parasite/disease.

This leaves me with 2 clowns and a mandarin. I want to replace the blenny because it's useful in my tank.

Should I wait... I mean *if* it was some disease/parasite that killed the fish, then if I put in a new blenny, would I be sentencing it to a death sentence? Or does it not work that way.

The remaining fish seem fine - but then again, so did the blenny/wrasse b4 they died.

Not really wanting to use any sort of medication in my DT. I'm fully prepared to go fishless with the exception of a blenny...

Or should I treat the DT with something as a precaution... I don't really know of what to use if I should though... (really thinking this isn't the way to go)

I suppose you could use some sort of medication but I would start with a partial water change and see if that helps in any way

I wouldn't treat the tank as of yet because you still don't know the cause of death.
I would just keep an eye on the livestock you have as of now and monitor their health. It they too fall ill or pass away, then you may want to QT them or treat them (If you can pin point the cause). If they seem fine in a week or two, then you might think of adding another Blenny.
Thats just MO tho. Keep us updated.

I had some unrelated rock work changes (due to the time line unrelated) that triggered me doing a water change this weekend. So I did do that. But I don't think it did anything for the fish - in this situation (and it's what makes this hard) there is nothing to "see if it helps" ya know? The fish appear healthy (as does the coral). As did the fish that died up until they died.

So all I'm really looking for here is FSD (fish sudden death)... i hate that.

Kind of helpless feeling for my fishies.

I agree with you, I wouldn't treat the DT unless your sure of what your treating. You said before you don't like the fish you have in there, so why not get rid of them. Let the tank go fish less for a few weeks (hopefully killing any fish born parasites) then restock fresh.

Maybe see if you can pick up a UV sterilizer to run temporarily to kill whatever parasites may be in the water?

yea i hear ya....i'd just keep a watchful eye on 'em see how they are eating and behavior, etc. Hopefully it was just something rare that happened w/ those 2 fish dying and preferably not an internal or external disease.

I would love to do this but I just don't have the heart to flush the clowns and nobody will take the meanies. Maybe bc I keep describing them as meanies :p

I tried 3 LFS in my area and have put them up on the 3reef board. No takers.

Maybe I'll just live with these clowns and quit adding other things... but I really need a blenny - everytime I'm without a blenny i get algae popping up on my over flow pipes and PH's etc that the snails kind of ignore.

I had two fish die within a week of each other and both were seemingly healthy, a scooter blennie and a yellow tang. If there are no signs of disease and the remaining fish are fine I wouldn't worry too much about it, fish die. I replaced mine and have had no problems.
