    Hey guys,
I just added live sand (not the bag kind, some from a tank the lfs was trying to get rid of) and my water is cloudy- as if theres still sand in the water. Shoud I run my filter and heater or not- i thought i might be filtering sand in.

    Thanks!

I made the mistake of not waiting and there was a layer of sand in my sump. So you can turn the heater on but wait until the water is cleared to run the filter to avoid extra cleaning later.

No, don't run a filter. It will settle down. Are you running a skimmer? This will also help it out.
Run a new tank just like you would an old tank. Turn on everything. Powerheads, believe it or not, these actually help clear the water.

I'm still debating on what skimmer to get- anyone know of a good cheap one? Seaclone skimmer's price looks good but I've heard bad things about it.

What size tank and whats your price range? If you want a HOB then look at the ratings bc you don't want to go too cheap and end up with water all over your floor lol...

A little bit over your price range but one of the most popular skimmers is the AquaC Remora. You could probably find a cheaper used one on ebay, craigslist, or FS sections of forums. The more you spend, the better the quality. Thats usually how it goes in terms of skimmers.
