I will explain my situation so You understand where am at.
My tank has been running for 8 weeks and went through the cycle.
At 6 week I went and bought 2 clowns fish and a week later the cleaner shrimp where on sale and could not resist I bought one. Few days later my dry base rock came in (50lbs) and was not smart about it and put in in the tank all at once ( rinse and brush before putting in).

Now i am going through another mini cycle. My fish are good so is my shrimp.

My question is that during all that I was getting my refugium ready but with the cycle i am not sure if I should wait before adding cheato.

Can the cycle kill the cheato?
Or by adding the cheato would it be to much new stuff in my tank or will it help?

    What do you think?

Long as you have light, nitrates and other nutirents the algae eats you can go for it. Maybe start with a small pinch rather than a large one. It grows fast anyway and wont need to worry about adding too many nutirents should there not be enough for it to eat and the chaeto dies. I dont think you'll have that problem though. A little goes a long way.

Personally, I would just wait. There's really no need for it now IMO. After everything settles down, then add some in your refugium.

Put It In right off the bat and you will start to reduce any buildup of No3 and Po4, No need to wait for them to be a problem! That's the purpose of the Chaeto to reduce nutrients in the first place. As soon as you start feeding you start to have Po4 from the fish poo! If you let this build up you will see problem Algae start to take hold.

I started with cheato from Day 1. Why wait? It is going to remove nitrates, which are the byproduct of the tank cycling ammonia and nitrites... the only thing you may do is slow the growth of nitrate reducing bacteria... but if the cheato is taking it up, I think this would be ok, and you'd get the benefit of removing phosphates as well.

I imagine your mini-cycle was due to the addition of fish, not DRY rocks.
