Show me your standpipes!

Bogie, I've got enough plastic/acrylic to make a whole tank our local hardware store is retiring(closing) and he said that whatever acrylic he has left over, he's giving to me. Should be a good bit, he's got a lot. I might even try to get his glass too.. I thought about doing it myself. Do I make the hole in the bottom 1" or what and how big does the box need to be? I'll need to make two of them. also how do I keep critters from getting sucked into it and going into the filters in the sump?

Like I said in the 135 thread, I'm not rushing it. I've got bulkheads coming in Monday or Tuesday. Most of the other stuff should be in on the 30th. Gonna be like Christmas morning!
