I'd love some suggestions on a showpiece coral for my 55 gallon. My lighting will be a 150w MH with actinics to be added(retrofit)later.
    Currently i've got a Duncan,Frogspawn,Cabbage,Toadstool,various Zo's,mushroom,Kenya,Pipe Organ.

I love Elegance but am not sure how hardy they are. I know the one's from Australia are supposed to be better but some say carbon is necessary to be successful.
I use the 60plus lbs. of LR and protein skimmer as my filtration.

    Hey EvoeJoe

a Torch coral makes a lovely centre piece for lower layer front and centre

a would a nice bubble coral, green or pearl both really good IMO

a Trachy brain coral is another 1 I would consider for a centre piece

the above assume you mean lower half or base of tank

I'm with Steve on this one. Good luck with what ever choice you make.

    Thanks Steve,
Great suggestions. I actually added a Torch today;D.
I've got a 3 branch Frogspawn on top and the Torch lower towards the middle. I plan on adding a Hammer next towards the bottom.

I'm planning on adding a Pink Birdsnest up high directly under the MH.
Do you think that will be enough light for the colony to thrive?

Yea, especially for a birdsnest. Have you thought about some really nice acan color morph? I like the idea of an elegance, just make sure to get one from Australia as you've already noted. A nice chalice would be cool too, they come in all sorts of really nice colors. A monti cap would also be really cool, their scrolling patter is awesome as they grow.

I have not thought of the corals you've mentioned but will certainly look them up. I really value the input of the more advanced reefers such as yourself.
My concern has always been the lighting in regards to the more advanced stuff. As long as you guys think i'm ok with the 1-150MH and the actinics then i'm all in!
My plan today is to put a hold on a beautiful Pink Birdsnest that my LFS has. Like i said it will be at the highest point in the tank directly under the MH. I will take some photos so as to get everyones opinion on my progress so far.
I would really love a dense coral population and would love to know which corals can be placed in close proximity without a turf war. This is why in the middle of the tank i've got the Frogspawn,Torch and Hammer(to be added)together since they are not a threat to each other(or so i'm told).
All you guys make this hobby even more fun then it already is! I love your input;D;D!KARMA TO ALL POSTERS!

I love my duncans! They are my favorite piece of coral and since its a bigger piece it is quite the show. My clowns used to host in it like a nem! It was pretty cool to see :)

I just editted my original post. I have a Duncan, i incorrectly listed it as a Dendro, oops:-/.
My clowns seem to be toying with the idea of hosting in the Frogspwawn. They seem to like swimming through and around it.
    Really fun to watch!
