you need something to seed the tank w/ ie. live rock, sand from an established tank

Shouldnt the cycle run even if there is no liverock? I am adding the base rock tomorrow.
I did a test and have some ammonia and .25 nitrite. didnt test for nitrate yet.

Yes, atmospheric microbes will land in your tank and rot the shrimp (even if you don't have live sand or live rock). However, if you borrow a cup of sand from an established tank, it will speed up the process.

The cloudy water is a bacteria bloom. They will leave the water column and then coat your base rock and sand (they primarily live in biofilms on surfaces).

Too much! It shouldn't smell or cloud up your water. You don't want toxic levels of ammonia in there as it will stall your cycle. I have never smelled the shrimp rotting and I use a shrimp to challenge all my tanks.

I would remove some.... like alot.

THIS IS EXACTLY what I was thinking. Its horrible.
I will pull it out. And cut it in 1/4 and put that back in.
I was afraid it was too big from the beginning.

OMG. I just pulled it out. I smells like a log of poop. so disgusting. I got it on my hands when I cut it and the smell is in my skin. Smells like I was rubbing poop all over my hands!
Something is wrong! I threw a little 1/2" piece back in
