i am in no rush, its been 4 weeks, I am away for 2 weeks from Tuesday diving in the red sea, so the best aquarium in the world, and I get to "get up close and personal" with the real deal.

I hope this is ready when i get back.

Did you rinse the sand before you pour it in?

I may have missed it somewhere in the thread...but I believe you said your skimmer is still in the box? I used the same sand, a variety actually, and started the skimmer from day 1....it's mainly pulling the cloudy, sandy gunk out. If you're not using it, it would definitely help to start....IMO

What about bacterial colonies? My sand was "loose" for the first month and a half, but it was coarser. If I had your thin type of sand it would have been the same.
About the bacteria and the reason I bring that up is because usually bacteria will form a sort of film on the sand that helps things stick together. I would add a full bottle of bacteria and leave it a couple more weeks. Definitely set up the skimmer and try to use pre filters for any other pump and equipment (except the skimmer) to protect it from abrasion (sp).
