    Hi, please help lol

i picked up a hammer frag from a local reef meet and its my first LPS
obviously the first thing i did once it was in the tank was take a photo
    [IMG]

its been in there about 3 days and seems to be looking a little bit worse

i dont think its on its last legs just yet, but i do want it to get better

its a 7 gal display with fluval 105 canister running purigen and antiphos.

the only thing i've recently started adding to my tank is red sea coral gro as suggest by my LFS for better growth. 1ml per day which seems a bit less than the 10ml/50 gal suggest on the bottle.

    test results
    sg ~1.031
    am - 0
    ni - 0
    na - 0
    ph - 7.8-8.2
    po4 - 0
    cal - 540
    mag >1500ppm (1.15ml safilert reagent)
    KH - 9.9dKH

all tests were api except for salifert mag and KH.

    numbers seem high to me?
will this be because of the high salinity? and would that in turn be making the hammer unhappy

i've just got a ro/di filter and have only made my first batch of top up water yesterday. i thought regular water changes would keep it lower but its obviously crept up on me.

going to do a water change now, but how long should i stretch out bringing sg back to 1.026? a couple of days/weeks? or get it down asap?

    thanks for looking

It's not going to be liking that Specific Gravity/Salinity.

I would bring it down over 2 days. Take out some saltwater and replace it with HEATED/AERATED RO/DI water.

As a side note, looking at your params, I get the impression you are topping off with saltwater... Salt doesn't evaporate and all that. Top off with FW if that's how your SG etc got so high.

Very astute observation. I was thinking a waterchange was mixed wrong. +k

    you're right, good eye!
i have been topping up with NSW for a little while as i couldnt find anywhere to get ro/di water (alot of things seem harder to find down here) and hearing how bad tap water can be i was reluctant to add that to the tank. i had hoped that maybe it would come down when i did water changes but apparantly not so much.
my new rodi arrived this week and i finally got it hooked up to make my first batch yesterday so hopefully this problem wont be happening again.

thanks for the advice, its always appreciated.
