On or about the 15th of this month my housekeeper brought me a bi-color angel. On the 17th I put in my dry rock and set it up. A few days later the Angel had a coat of something on her and had some white spots. The next day she was dead. A few days later my Royal Gramma came down with the same thing and died. THat was three days ago. My nitrates and phospahates are a bit high but nothing drastic. Now my perc clown has the same coat. I got a friend to take some pics. I had thought at first it was ick so I have been dousing the tank with Kordon Ick Attack which helps with diseases from ich, fungus, protozoans, and dinoflagellates...I am also feeding the fish gel-tek which is a medicated food with Tetracycline for Bacterial Ifections Ulcers and sores pop eye and dropsy anf gill diseasesHere are a few pictures of the clown. I do not know what is wrong but it takes the fish overnight. Help if you can. thank you for your time..

The Tetracycline won't do anything to Amyloodinium (marine Velvet)

I've never used that other product but velvet is a dinoflagellate.

the tank hAs been cycled. It has been up for since early jan...I did have a anemone die in the tank and the zooanthellae in an anemone is dinflagellate so I guess thats where it cam from but he died over a 5 weeks ago and the water has been changed twice since then.....I know now I was to early to have a anemone but the lfs here lies about everything just to make a sale....How do I get rid of velvet. It takes fish down overnight. If it is velvet why are there such big spans in th efish deaths....ich in a tank gets emm all instead of being spread out so far....what do I do now the watet has been channged so why is it still in my tank?

By time you see this disease most of the damage has been done to the gills and internal organs . It simple treat with Mardels Marycin 1 with B complex to stimulate feeding . The damage done to the gills will often more times then not infect and that what does the damage this can spread very fast. Best treatment I ever found was Quinine Sulfate works very well But cut is 100% correct its Oodinium or marine velvet coral fish disease many names for the same pest .. Best get on it fast as it spreads like wildfire and last 8 to 10 weeks ..with out a host. Unlike Ich this kills

It wasnt from the anemone it was brought in by the angel. THe site I just read said the beast things are copper and chloroquine diphosphate and peroxide but peroxide needed more studies and testing before being an active solution. What is chloroquine diphosphate and if I use copper does that mean that this will never be a reef tank? The copper I heard will make my tank where it will never be a reef tank. True or not? I am kinda messed up cause I dont have any way to the LFS until next week :( as far as stimulating feeding the fish is feeding and eating the tetracycline but from what I gather neither medication I have is of any value in this situation. Fresh water dips helps but stresses the fish and is only a temporary answer....I have turned off the lights and the tank is in complete darkness which is supposed to be helpful as far as getting rid of the parasite but how long will this take to rid the tank of it? Will it affect my clean up crew or my feather duster. Will it be okay to leave them in the dark for a several weeks. Where do I stand on the whole deal as far as ridding the tank of the parasite. I assume that with no ride to the store the fish is gone. I will keep using what I have and leave the lights off and see what hsappens....If I lose the fish how long in the dark will the paraiste live? thnx again
