If I lose the fish and order Quinine Sulfate will it clear it out of my tank or do I just leave it in the dark for a couple months? If I moved everything to another tank and completly tore this one down and washed everything including sustrate would that clear it out?

Bryce aka bmshehan just had the same deal in his tank , I myself would allow the system to go 10 to 12 weeks Its said it will die out in 8 weeks . I have used the Quinine many times worked great on the sick fish maybe there is some new drugs to deal with it ? I have also used malachite Green it did a decent job on saving the sick fish. If you fish is not breathing like a winded quarter horse running a mile then it may make it ? Its a funny disease in that it most often begins internally but not always so damage to gills and internal organs could be minimal if at all . Fish in the photos did not look really bad .

The fish appears to be breathing pretty hard now. What about the other inhabitants in the tank like cuc feather duster...is velvet something that only affects fish? Thanks for the help and info Tangster..

It's a different type of dinoflagellate. You can turn on your lights.

thnx. The fish look's pretty bad but is still eating and still has his same silly personality so maybe he will be one that becomes immune to the velvet. I read that some do. The site listed in this thread is really interesting. If you havent read it, it is worth the time. Thank's Tangster and other's for your help and input .... *peace* ....
