Hi guys, my fiance just suprised me with a little kole tang i was watching at my local store... when i got home and was about to acclimate him.. noticed he was iched up pretty bad... so i broke down my aggressive invert tank and turned it into my QT. the Qt does have sand but removed the rock... I bumped up the heat to 80 and dripped him for 2hrs... and gave a dose of formalin based ich meds(Kordon rid*ich). never used this stuff before all i could get my hands on at 7:30 at night...finished with him and everything in the tank at about 11:00 last night. this am he seemed to be doing better less signs of ich.. but now at 3:30 he is breathing rapidly or hard, and i know this is a bad sign..Im going to do a h20 change prob 5 gal for the 30g qt. Going to test the h20 now but i dont think thats the issue... what i am really wondering is if it could have gill flukes or flatworms?? would this cause the heavy breathing and could potentially cause the compromised immune system allowing ich to run wild?

    ill have water params shortly

it might be related to the higher water temp. and by consequence less oxygen (if im not mistaken). try adding an air stone.

actually nvm that would be roughly 26°c....i would add an airstone regardless...do you have surface water movement?

I agree it could be low oxygen but I think is more likely just stress. There's probably no point in feeding at this point. It might be good to give him some rock to hide in and low or no light. If he improves to the piont that you think he might eat you could try nori soaked with garlic or selcon.Good luck, hope he turns around for you.

Ich is not as dangerous in salt as it is in fresh. I have had tangs COVERED in white spots and recover just fine. As long as he is eating well, and you add a few garlic drops to his food, that is all you can do...sometimes moving them to a QT is more stressful than the ich itself.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
The parasite (marine ich) is also present in gills, this is where it kills.

It really never hurts to increase the O2 level.

Raising the temp is a treatment for fresh water ich a completely different parasite.

ok... good Just checked water all nitrates, phosphates, nitirites, and NH3 are all a big 0! Ill add an airstone... yea i just got him to eat some brine shrimp in garlic which was relieving... so it seems to be pointing in the direction of O2 deficiency huh?!?! Thanks guys... headed back to freaking petsmart... my back-up lfs just closes in 5 min and cant get there in time... and my primary LFS isnt open sundays or mondays...Naturally!!! Thanks guys... If it weren't for all you guys here Id be a Stressed out Nervous wreck... kinda like my fish! Miserly loves company
