Hey guys, noticed over the past few days my starfish hasn't been moving about much, because of this I was only seeing the underside of it.

So I managed to look at the front of it and noticed this white gash to its body (see pic)...Now I recently added a powder brown tang and snowflake eel and suspected maby either one of them had caused the injury? Or is this something else?

All my water parameters are good, I checked them last week and they're the best they have been in months.

If it looks like its not something I can do to help it I might have no choice but to put it back somewhere in the ocean where it might have a chance?

How resilient are starfish and do their wounds usually heal over time?

Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers guys!

be sure nothing is eating it - linkia starfish can carry a parasite that slowly eats it.

if all is well - they will heal. If you don't have the food they require (unknown) they will starve.

How large is the tank and how long has it been established?

Linckias are not easy to keep and need a large, established tank.

    Thanks for the help.

My tank is about 115 gallons. I also have a 2ft sump. The tank has been established for almost a year now. I have had the linckias for about 3-4 months

Be really careful with returning it to the ocean. Best case it might survive (but if it's sick that's less than likely), but in a very real way it might be an invasive species with a fine attached.

I think Australia only allows local catches, but doesn't hurt to be careful!

Thanks for that, never really thought about that.. I might see if my LFS will accept him and maybe quarantine him. I just wouldn't want it to die
