I would say 74 is on the cold side. I keep my tank at 78.

    Thanks!
I'll try to get the two heaters on Tuesday. My supplier is closed on Monday.

Thanks man. Got the two big pieces from a fellow reefer who scrapped down his tank. Those two really add some character.

74 is on the cold side as far as what reefers are used to keeping their tanks at, but it will actually keep your fish and corals happier on the lower end. Most tanks can't be kept that low due to lighting heat issues, so it becomes accepted that reef rang is in the high 70's to low 80's. Most fish are fine down to at least 72 degrees and their are some benefits of keeping this low. bad bacterias don't live as well in colder water, so you won't have as many problems with fish illness. The saturation point for O2 gets lower the higher temps in the water go, so your water will have more capacity to hold O2 at lower temps. If I had the ability I would keep my reef at about 75, but my lights and pumps won't allow it. If you do keep it low be sure to go slow when acclimating fish and coral.

Thanks Mike. That's interesting to know. I read before that the low 70's was acceptable but I didn't know how low. But I will still get the heater for stability reasons.
