Definitely good to have. Even if you set it for 72 and it never comes on at least it's there waiting.

I just remembered that I did try this out for awhile. I had a clown, goby, shrimp and some soft corals in 73 degrees for several months and nothing adverse happened at all. The weirdest thing was that the tank was sitting right next to my main reef (79 degrees during day). I would work on the main reef then reach into the cold reef right next to it. It was always a shock to hit that cold water after being in the warm reef.

I know what you mean, while I was setting up this bedroom tank, I was alternating in and out of my fish room with all the other tanks. And the bedroom tank is a huge shocker to feel that cold water compared to the other tanks.

    Re-Model

So after much headache with the ac in the room being too cold and the tank mysteriously springing a leak, I went out and got a new glass 20gal. It measures 24Lx12Wx15H really nice size. But the aquascape is difficult.
I'm using the same type of light 4x24W T5. Not sure if it's enough to support the SPS corals that I plan on keeping. I need to get a PAR meter to be sure. I'm changing out the Odyssea bulbs to ATI 2x12000K and 2XBlue plus.
No chiller just a submersible heater. It's working out well so far. I'll post pics a bit later. I have to charge the cam.

You will be able to support any SPS under that light. You will need to watch for color loss on some montipora like the Superman the blue may go away. Most tanks need no more than 3 watts per gallon to support any SPS.

Ok great thanks. I was concerned about the height of the tank being 15". A friend of mine has a really nice super man monti that I want a frag of. Maybe I may give it a go close to the top andif that doesn't work out, then I would just transfer it over to my DT that has halides.
    Thanks
Also, is color loss reversible? My montipora confusa has lost all it's green coloration.

It can be. What kelvin bulbs do you have. I would put the Superman down lower myself. I have 324W T5HO on my 75 with the monti placed in the upper middle of the tank and it has lost most of it's blue.

I have 2 10K and 2 Actinic. So too much light would cause the monti to lose color or too little light?
