    Cool thread topic.
I tend to see 'tells' in the live rock... when a blue/white rocks start turning brown and you get the sludgy algae on it.. check the big three, usually alk is low and calcium is off due to really low magnesium. Get that up to stop the swings then adjust the others. For me... it starts with my live rock... if you let that go far, then the SPS coral starts to fade and then RTN.

I agree 100% I had a battle with alk not to long ago.. Funny thing is it only affected my sps and I lost a few to STN it's the only thing I could point to  or po4 but was low just not great for sps, after I got that in check all has been good except the small patch of macro in the display tank and some brown sps and I never had access to a Hanna till this last week.
I never had hair Algae or any other kind till 6 weeks ago I got some nasty red slime in the sand and started my mb7 and vodka and ordered my pellets
Now I have no slime my macro is dying and my xenia in fading away lol

I guess that statement of every tank is different is very true ;)
One thing I have learned is to take it slow UNLESS it's husbandry and that's one thing you can't be slow on:p

Edit your first post, and "Go Advanced" in the editor; that will allow you to change the thread title.
