so I decided to rip out the crap in my sump (bioballs, filter pad, weird media) and turn it into a sump. but to do this I got to knock down 1 pre-existing baffle and build 1 new one. so my questions are...

    1. should I do this
    2. how long does it take for silicone to cure
    3. will acrylic bond to acrylic decently using silicone, cause I dont have weldon #4

    thanks...

Silicon will not bond to acrylic. You need weld on. The only way we get around that is with acrylic baffles on a GLASS tank. The silicon sticks to the glass and wedges the acrylic baffles in place.

Amazingly, GE silicone 1 adhered just fine to my 12g acrylic wet dry turned sump with acrylic baffles. I was told it would not hold afte I tried it, and I had a good laugh about that as it never let loose, and AFAIK, still holds for the guy i sold it to.

I had no problems with silicone in my acrylic sump. I even used an acrylic baffle.
I had to use a ton of it. But it ran for about 4 months til i replaced the whole sump with a 55g tank... in which i used acrylic baffles and basic cheap 100% silicone from lowes.

GE 1 may be reef safe but read the label. GE specifically says it is not intended for aquarium use or where completely submerged. Why take a chance?

Yep.. 100% silicone.. it said it was not to be under water for long periods of time on the label as well... i used it because others here have used it.. worked perfectly fine and is still working.. been probably 6 months or so now..
