I wanted to do this just for fun. I couldnt find any statistical evidence to show that this is beneficial in any way. Only guess i had was it could trigger some sort of a spawning event.

So i have a reefkeeper 2. I hooked up the moonlights to one of the outlets and set the moonlights as a heater. The heater goes in and out momentarily switching on and off every few milliseconds to maintain temperature. So it looks very much like lightning when you hook up moonlights to it. The lightning however is completely random and very cool to watch.

I have my computer pretty close to the fish tank so i put my subwoofer and speakers facing the glass and player some thunderstorm sounds for a few hours.

The pumps would also go in and out every 10 minutes.

Nothing really happened yet. Just thought i'd share my experiment

A more realistic thuderstorm simulation would probably destroy my tank.;D

If anything, you should move the moonlights over top the tank to represent the cycle of the moon, cover a few lights up to represent the various stages of the moon. Maybe that will trigger something.

Just eat a lot of baked beans and turn the lights on and off a lot.

    That should do it;)

I've often wondered if there would be any benefit to doing something like that. Blasting strong pumps intermittently, spray bar across the top of the tank, light flashes, etc. Would be pretty cool.
