This guy never looks so good during the day. At night he comes to life.

Very nice, are the polyps not always extended like that? All the Sinularias i have ever kept myself never had polyp extension like that. Pretty awesome!

Hey phoenix. Nice to see you around again.

No. The polyps never extend like that during the day. When the actinics and halides are on, the stalks you see in the pics above are nubbly and bare. They look like mucous covered pipe cleaners!! :) During the day, every few hours the polyps might or might not come out, but if they do, they're sure to soon retract as if on schedule. I know it's healthy b/c every night the polyps come out just like you see above. Apparently this coral likes the nighttime.

    Go figure.

No I haven't, NUGIO. I haven't read that the sinularia likes shade; as non-photsynthetic corals do.

I did two night dives on the Great Barrier Reef about 30 miles southeast of Cairns back in October 2006. Man, you should have seen corals opened up everywhere, completely different from the day, it was amazing.....

my sinularia leathers are at the bottom of my tank in both corners, framing the tank. They're always extended during the day and shrink at night. Mine are growing like weeds, stretching higher and higher.

I initially got one medium clump and sliced it in half and the smaller piece has grown so much.

Here's a pic of my biggest one:

Hey sparky, I'm sure you have seen my monster Colt, it is fully in bloom (my choice of term) both day and night. I do believe it reacts to chemical warfare incidence as sometimes will retract and look like the pipe cleaner thing (how did you come up with that one? Ha, Ha). Also, seems to like 9-11 DKH. Yours is beautiful. Be nice to figure out what is happening during the day.
