    Hello,

I just bought a 46 gallon salt water tank yesterday, with live rock. The tank has no drill holes in it, and I am not confident enough to drill into it, nor do I want to breach my warranty. I was wondering if it was possible to have a sump tank without any holes, or if I would be stuck using a siphon pump. I hate the look of the skimmer (right now I am poorly hiding it behind rocks). I really wish I had the sump tank to hide some of my supplies and to optimize the water volume of the tank.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks :D

If you don't want to drill the tank, the easiest option is to get a HOB overflow. I would recommend Eshopps brand as they never lose siphon. There is no pump though, just a small box inside the tank with a U-tube that flows into another box outside the tank.

Thanks for your reply, Marshall O. I believe that I might already have an overflow. I am not entirely clear on the mechanics of what I have yet. I have an Aqua Clear Multi-stage Filtration System. I think I was told that it is a syphon system that has an overflow U-tube. Does that make sense? I am still so overwhelmed from all the information I was told while purchasing all my supplies yesterday and what I have read online. Thanks for your help!

I think you just have a regular HOB filter that uses a pump to pull water from the DT, goes through the stages of the filter, then dumps back to the tank. That is not at all what we are talking about ;)

Here is an overflow box I am referring to: PF_800 | ESHOPPS - Manufacturer of Aquarium Filtrations

The black box sits in the display tank and fills with water. The U-tube siphons water to the clear box, which hangs on the back. Then water drains to your sump. You pump water back to your display tank and the cycle continues.
