I'm into high end audio equipment and belong to the forum Audio Review and a few months back someone posted the question- Do you sit back and enjoy the music or are you too critical of your system and always thinking about the faults or ways to improve your system. It got me thinking about the same question about my reef and fish tanks. So I'm gonna ask the same question here.

Do you take time to just sit, relax and watch your tanks or are you too preoccupied with finding problems or thinking about ways you can improve your tank?

I know there are times I forget to just sit back and enjoy my tanks and have to remind myself to do so.8)

I used to spend all my time looking for the next project. However now that I'm about 4 yrs established and the only other upgrade that is left is a calcium reactor I finally find myself relaxing and enjoying it. Now the only problem is after 20 min I always find myself wanting to take a nap :)

Thats one of the benefits of fish keeping. Its supposed to be very relaxing and in medical studies it has been shown to lower blood pressure and the incidence of heart attack!

In addition to the health aspects(fish tanks in many doctor's offices etc.), Yse I do spend time just watching my tanks after the initial time of holding my breath, hoping that nothing has happened to my tanks and the living animals kept in the tanks!!!!!

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure they're talking about fresh water systems. Marine aquariums have caused much high blood pressure and possibly even a few heart attacks. I suppose the ultimate thing to do is start a marine tank while you're young, then by the time you're old enough to worry about heart problems, the tank will be aged and stable enough to be somewhat relaxing.:laughing0

I spend about 25 min every day staring into my wild little world. I am always thinking what I want next but seeing my tank come to life is one of the most peaceful and enjoyable time of my day. It sure beats paying attention to my GF!

I've been thinking about putting a tank in my stereo room so I can watch the tank and listen to the sweet sounds coming from my Magnepans. I'm not sure how the fish would like the music though.

If you have the proper sound system (and believe me, we do! LOL!), I'm pretty sure that the sound waves would cause enough turbulence in the aquarium that you could just do away with circulating pumps and power heads altogether.
We actually have people calling us from three miles away asking that we turn down the sound a bit because their bath water is foaming. ;D

Next, a good question would be, could we (by cranking up the sound system) actually create a "sound activated" protein skimmer??? Wouldn't it be a lot better to listen to than the usual sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss........gurgle gurgle......sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss. :)

I sit in front of my tanks all the time just looking around in it, checking on all of the critters, seeing what they are doing. hahah making sure they are doing what they are suppose to be doing, hahaha. Thats how I caught an emerald crab eating an abalone when they are suppose to be reef safe. I love my tanks, and its a damn shame that some people get out of the hobby, I think everybody should have a tank. They are so relaxing, I really enjoy mine, and so does the rest of the family and any visitors that come over.
