I just picked up a six line wrasse and my hawkfish is being pretty agressive with him. The wrasse is a new addition (2 days ago), is fairly shy and hides in the rocks but when he comes out every now and then the hawkfish is on him like a dirty shirt. According to the compatibility charts these two fish should not be a problem.

Will this aggressive behavior on the part of the hawkfish go away in due course?

    Thanks.

Yes well so much for experts and charts .. really at this point there is little you can do but wait and see.. They are not truly food source rivals as long as you have hiding places it should work out. It's probably the coloration of the wrasse that is tweaking the hawk out if its a flame hawk. And or the somewhat jerky swimming motion of the wrasse might be the triggering fact ? Hell it could be alot of things really . I'd think they should work it out in a bit I guess , I have had tangs chase and flare and act all mean but in the end they all worked it out people just get overly excited when they see any aggression I guess ?

Try changing some of the live rock arrangemet to make the Hawkfish a little less comfortable!! It may work! You never know, unfortunately, about compatability issues!

As of last night the hawkfish seems to have mellowed out a little (just a little ) and the wrasse is out and about.

AS I said people just get all worked up about any aggression of any kind and can't wait to put it to print :) I keep tangs and have for more yrs then I care to recall . Like on average 7 to 10 in a average 130 to 180 tank and I have never not had them work it out after a bit of chasing and puffing up. And the occasional flaring up and a fast chase still :) Glad its all settling in for you now they will be fine .
