Nope, didn't cut the cannister. Actually, today is the day I disasemble ol'e leaky, yet again, re-teflon tape the base, or try silicone paste to get a good seal, and just let it be a pump. I broke down and got a little sea clone 100 skimmer. Lost 2 five dollar pepermint shrimp in 2 days. (That justifies spending a hundred bucks, right?) Of course, I don't have room in the back of the tank for the skimmer, so it hangs on the front. (but I will move it, I swear!)

    Of course it does!

Not familiar with the Sea Clone 100...will it fit inside the Skilter sump if you remove the Skilter skimmer?

    Good luck!

Nope, sea clone is big bad boy that hangs off the back. I had to use my soldering iron to cut the canopy so it fits. 2 tries with the skilter and now it's not leaking, at least as of a few hours ago.
Good luck with your skilter. Do me a favor, and check for leaks...

    Checked. No leaks!

There was Skilkter 250 in eBay the other night. Started at 99 cents (good price), ended at $22.00! I may have someone new reading this thread soon!;D

i unfortunately have a skilter on my 10g nano reef and after reading your thread recently modded it. i did the airstone/film canister mod which really cut down on the air bubbles in my tank and i also clipped down the blades on the impeller to cut back on the flow. Thanks for the info it seems like its actually working correctly now.
