It is on the wet side and I was trying to find someone who already tasted it.

It is salty.... and no, I have NOT tasted it.

The water that makes the bubbles is salt water...

PS -- I don't do water changes. I wet skim a bit more than normal and replace the trace element normally recovered by water changes. I figure by wet skimming that I am removing water just like a water change, but pulling random junk out while I am doing it as well.

By Skimming more wet than dry, does that mean you decrease air flow (closing venturi valve more) thus increasing I guess it would be the aggregation making the column of bubbles rise? I want to make sure I have the proper understanding. I usually get most skimmate in the cylinder (around the sides) just above the water line more so than in the collection cup it self. At times seemingly unexpectedly, it will force bubbles up into the collection cup but not often. I assume when the tank gets dirtier than normal it pulls the DO out.

You generally set the water level to get wet or dry..... you should pull as much air as you can. Raising the water level will put more backpressure on the pump and decrease air draw.
