I have been working on this Jebo 180 HOB skimmer for days and still I get alot of air in the aquarium. How will this affect the fish with all this air in the tank because I read on another site that this is completely normal for a new protein skimmer to do. And to wait until an organic film gets built up on the acrylic and it should stop. Is this true or not?

I believe that the air in the tank will affect the fish in some way of which I do not know. I too have the same problem with a DIY skimmer I built. I'm anxious to know what are the downfalls of this and how to correct the problem. Wish I could help but unfortunately, I'm in the same predicament. I really don't think however, that an organic film will prevent this from happening. I may be wrong though

Well, a few things... increased air will allow you to keep more fish with less stress per volume.

Also, increased bubbles will typically add to algae blooms. At least in my experience.

Im sure others with chime in....

I have noticed something that resembles Dinoflagellates
but might just be air bubbles on strands of other algae as the bubbles look like air and arent brown...hope anyways...
I will know in a day or so. I have to go get new glasses soon...

I don't know if you saw my post on one of your threads....but it may help with the fine tuning of your skimmer.

Now, as for the microbubbles, as the skimmer ages, the microbubbles may go away. But if they do not, you can fashion a filter sock (or something made from one) over the output of the skimmer and that will solve your problem. You just need a few of them as they get dirty fast and should be changed out twice weekly and washed.

I saw the thread and this skimmer doesnt have an airport where yours does. I also thought about a media bag over where the water comes back into the main tank. If I do put it there can I also go ahead and put carbon in the bag...

I would suggest putting carbon in a different bag. If you're changing the sock on the end of the skimmer weekly, you probably will avoid it if you have to move the carbon every time. Just another nuisance you'll probably want to avoid.
