    Hey everyone.
I am currently setting up my first ever saltwater tank (Yaaaayy;D;D) although I am having trouble with my protein skimmer I just cant find out what depth the water has to be in order for it to run at full capacity. I have an "[HL="Red"]AquaOne Proskim G216[/HL]".

Please someone help me, I am currently in my most important school exam study break, although im more interested to get this tank up and running.

Post a pic if you can, that will help us describe whether the water level needs to be higher or lower. Is it producing foam at all? Or is the collection cup filling with water? Is it brand new? Sometimes skimmers take a little time to break in and start producing good skimmate. Most skimmers (all IMO) take some trial and error to get the level just right for it to foam nicely. Just mess with it and you'll get it.

In general most skimmers operate their best somewhere between 8 to 10 inches deep.

Thanks for the help tgood, u said that's sometimes it takes a while to break in, and yes it is producing bubbles so I guess ill just leave it for a while to adjust.

    Thanks tgood and Skurious

Personally what i did is this, you want the bubbles to rise up the skimmer and stop at the top of skimmer just before they enter the tube on the collection cup maybe a few mm over, start off with skimmer at 8" water depth, if the settings do not allow you to get the bubbles where you want, submerging the skimmer deeper will raise the bubbles and shallower will drop them, given a few hours or so if the skimmer is already broke in, it will start collecting into the cup, if not it may take upto a few days, this worked for me and now the skimmer pulls out Dark Brown skimmate, it may work for you.

run the skimmer in 8 inches of water and see what happens. Is there a way to adjust the skimmer to change the amount of air going in?
