The coralife is a good skimmer for the money, but if your limit is 300..i'd spend what you can on a good one. My coralife's pump froze up last week after being used for a year and cleaned out regularly. I have heard good things about the SWC HOB's. I just ordered a SWC 120 cone.

    OR

You could take this opportunity to build a sump :)

Yea I may just save up and get the SWC, as far as sump goes I have thought of turning the 20 to a sump. Especially now that it's full of rock and really doesn't have room for fish now. And it's sitting next to the 46, but I have no idea on how to build a sump of even if I could get the two connected

It's a lot easier than you think. I seems really complex, but the most difficult thing is getting the baffles in IMO. All it is is an overflow box, some PVC, a return pump, and the tank.

yup, figure $150 budget for a in-sump skimmer, $50 return pump, $100 overflow box w/ plumbing. you already have a 20g. would help keep your bioload down since you just added that much more water volume to the system. and no more old gym sock in the tank and hob skimmers. :)
